"Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably will themselves not be realized.
Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will not die."
-Daniel Hudson Burnham
The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1909 Plan of Chicago - a plan that Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett
laid out in their publication of the Plan of Chicago. Burnham had very big plans for the city including an extensive
park system, an intuitive upper and lower level road structure, and a central focal point of the city - modeled after
Paris, London and other great cities of the world.
These photographs look at Chicago in 2009 versus Chicago of 1909. I am interested in the changes that took place in Chicago
because of the plan and what was once there, what was planned to be there, and what is there now. Many of the changes
that Burnham desired were never carried out, some were implemented but not in the way he intended, and others are planned
for the future.
